Who we are
Plants for Hope is a plants-for-charity effort in Southeastern Wisconsin. We sell living plants in person; seasonal proceeds go to a featured local nonprofit (this season: TAC Wisconsin / Moss Universal Park).
This Privacy Policy covers the public website at plantsforhope.org only. It does not cover TAC’s own website, Square’s payment systems, or other third-party sites you may visit from our links.

What we collect today
Today, Plants for Hope does not run user accounts, a comments system, advertising tags, or a live email-list backend on this website.
What may still be processed when you visit:
- Hosting and CDN logs. The site is hosted on Netlify. DNS and Universal SSL for the domain are proxied through Cloudflare. Those providers typically log technical request data such as IP address, user agent, timestamps, and requested URLs as part of delivering and securing the site.
- Browser asset requests. Your browser requests HTML, CSS, fonts, images, and other static files. The homepage may load fonts from Google Fonts; other pages (including this one) may load fonts we host ourselves.
- Notify form (mockup). The “Hear about the next sale” form on the homepage is a design mockup. It does not currently POST or store your name or email with us. Typing in the fields does not create a mailing-list signup yet.
- Voluntary email. If you write by email to James Houchin, we keep that correspondence so we can reply and keep context if you write again.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not set advertising cookies on this site today.
- We do not offer accounts, profiles, or a comments system.
- We do not claim we collect “nothing” from every technical layer—hosting and DNS providers still keep ordinary server logs.
Future email list
If and when the notify form becomes a live signup, we expect to collect:
- Email address (required to send sale or pop-up notices)
- First name (optional, to personalize a greeting)
We would use that only to tell you about plant sales and in-person pop-ups in Southeastern Wisconsin—not to sell your address. You could ask us to correct or delete that information by emailing James Houchin. Until the form is live, treat anything typed there as not submitted to us.
In-person plant sales
Plant purchases happen in person at markets and tables. Card payments at the table are processed by Square. Square’s own privacy policy applies to payment card data. Plants for Hope does not store full card numbers on this website, and this website does not run a checkout.
Third parties & links
Services visitors may encounter in connection with this site or our tables:
- Netlify — website hosting
- Cloudflare — DNS proxy / Universal SSL
- Google Fonts — font delivery on the homepage (when used)
- Square — in-person card payments at the plant table (not website checkout)
We may link to third-party sites such as universalpark.org for donations to this season’s featured nonprofit. Those sites have their own policies. A donation on TAC’s site is between you and TAC.
Children’s privacy
This website is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this site. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact James Houchin and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Your rights (California & general)
Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and to ask how we use it. Because we currently collect little personal information through the website itself, many requests may simply confirm that we do not hold a marketing or account record for you.
To make a request, email James Houchin. We may need enough information to verify that the request is from you. We do not sell personal information, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
Retention & security
Hosting and CDN logs are retained according to those providers’ practices. Email you send us is kept as long as needed to respond and for ordinary records. If a live email list begins, we will keep signup details while your subscription is active and remove them when you ask us to, subject to any short backup retention.
The site is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure; we take reasonable care for a small static site.
Changes & contact
We may update this policy when our practices or the site change. When we do, we will refresh the effective date at the top of this page.
